WorkWorld Media Awards

Reporter of the year
This award is open to all correspondents reporting news in the fields of business, management or work. Their work can appear in national newspapers and magazines, the regional press or in specialist publications. The judges will be looking for specialist knowledge, critical analysis, insight and exclusivity.

Feature journalist award
This is a broad category, in which journalists writing for newspapers, consumer magazines, and specialist, trade and technical publications can all compete. Judges will be looking for depth of knowledge, clear thinking and lively writing – the knack of pushing back the frontiers of understanding while at the same time engrossing the reader.

Feature of the year award
This is for one-off feature pieces covering all aspects of business, workplace, management and economics. Judges will be looking for in-depth analysis, flair, originality and subject expertise, as well as recognition and understanding of the publication’s audience. The award is open to writers for magazines, newspapers, news agencies and online outlets.

Columnist of the year award
This category spans magazines and newspapers (but not online). We are looking for insightful wave-makers – those with strong and persuasive opinions, but grounded in an understanding of the subject and an ability to use solid data to support their arguments. Bloggers should enter the online category.

Broadcast news journalism award
This award will be given to the news journalist or team who has produced the best business, management or workplace news reporting to appear on television or radio. The panel will look for flair, originality, and a presentation style that captures an audience.

Television programme award
This award is for the team responsible for the best business, management or workplace programme on television. What the judges are looking for is passion, expertise and commitment to explaining the subject in an accessible way. This could be through both documentary and entertainment formats. This category is a broad one and encompasses both series and one off features. In the case of a series, one single programme from that series should be entered.

Journalist to watch
This award is for the up-and-comers in all sections of the media. Editors, publishers and producers can identify those in their teams who show most promise of great things to come, and submit examples of their work with a short supporting statement. (‘Up-and-coming’ means a maximum of four years journalistic experience.)

Online journalist award
This award recognises the rise of the web as a key information channel in the field of work, management and business. The category invites entries from individual writers that have made a notable contribution to how the subject is covered; blogs are also welcome in this category. Writers who write primarily for newspapers or magazines, but whose work also appears on the web are to be discouraged from entering this category. The copy must be destined first and foremost to appear online.

Radio programme award
This award is for the team that has produced the best radio programme reporting on business, management or workplace. The winning programme will demonstrate in-depth research, the ability to question, analyse and present the issues in an exciting, engaging way.

Lifetime achievement award
For the journalist who, in the judges’ opinion, has made a truly outstanding, long-term contribution to the explanation and understanding of the subjects of work, business and management.
